Thank-you so much for this reference to a necessary book for me. Had a gorgeous young woman with an entrancing and lovely disposition as a friend from Bosnia-Herzegovina in Undergrad as an Exchange Student in 1992. She, a Muslim, left home having a normal, peaceful life including a Christian boyfriend. When the war began she froze and couldn’t fathom what had happened as all lived together peacefully and suddenly, she couldn’t reach anybody by phone. She was not allowed to return home due to the danger involved and she was suddenly all alone. We eventually learned her boyfriend to be fighting and her mother and sister to have been killed. Never knew what happened to her father or other family members. All in School helped her but there was no help to be had in any formal way. WAR WAS AN UTTER MYSTERY.
I cry for Shanella to recall those days of her suffering. We went on after graduation and I never knew what happened to her since I had three kids, an abusive marriage to get out of, Grad School to begin and career to get off the ground concurrently. WISH I had maintained contact…Really did love her among all those in school.
What in the world is wrong with the world to allow this horror in Artsakh…THE U.S. SHOULD BE THERE TAKING THE ARMENIAN POPULATION AWAY RIGHT NOW…THEY WOULD BE AN AMAZING ADDITION TO THE U.S. POPULATION. WHAT IS WRONG?
The older one gets; the deeper the pain associated with tyranny, injustice and murder. Don’t know the reason the U.S. is allowing any of this…Makes absolutely NO SENSE.
